@peterpur developed a similar shared learning tool for his lectures. you would see the presentation on your laptop and can take notes or ask questions. the lecturer would see these questions in real time and adjust accordingly or wait a bit and see if someone from the audience can join in to clear things up. as far as I remember the data was persistent when the lecture was over and collaboration was still possible outside the lecture itself.

pretty much one of the coolest things I've seen on the technical university.
